The Most Elegant Book in My Garden Library
Reading and collecting garden books has become a hobby of mine, and this is by far the best of my collection. The landscapes in this book have been refined over centuries, by both man and nature. I look at this book repeatedly, for enjoyment and for ideas in sketching landscape designs

CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!
Open this book and you'll enter a world of sun-kissed villas, exotic foliage, colorful orchards, shadowed walkways, and incredible views overlooking the water. The photography simply took my breath away! I must have looked through the book a half a dozen times before I even began to read the text. If you're planning to visit the area let this serve as an inspiration from the usual tourist traps. I've been to Naples several times but this visually stunning tome made me realize just how much I've missed. Can't wait to go back and explore those gorgeous gardens! This book is definitely a keeper!

The Glace Bay Miners' Museum: The Novel
Published in Unknown Binding by Breton Books ()
Author: Sheldon Currie
Average review score:

A brilliant Canadian novel
The main character of this novel, Margaret MacNeil, is an absolutely stunning character. Currie makes it very clear throughout this novel the importance of family to Margaret. Although, living in the Reserve Mines, where you have no choice but to make a living as a miner, presents a difficult environment for Margaret to cope with. The end of this novel, although quite disturbing, is very compelling. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel by Sheldon Currie.

Even better than the movie
This excellent, vividly written novel became the movie "Margaret's Museum" (with Helena Bonham Carter). Its twisty plot is both a complete surprise, and somehow inevitable. I fell in love with the blunt, vulnerable Margaret, who tells the story. I'd recommend this book to anybody.

One of My Favorites!
Wonderful romance book set on a ranch in New Zealand! I really liked the lead character Liz Stuart, a spunky young woman with a lot of strength and courage, after her fiance dumps her for another woman she goes to a ranch where the owner a man named Jarrah Conway is a friend of her ex-fiance, Jarrah is very rude to Liz because of the lies that Liz's ex-fiance told him about her and he just wanted to believe that Liz was a horrible person, normally I can't stand books where the hero starts out as a major jerk but this book was an exception because it was just a really good book and is the book that got me into liking romance books set on horse ranches, especially in New Zealand and Australia. Definitely a keeper!

Very Good!!
Great book especially if you love romance books with a rancher/cowboy theme! Recommended!

This poignant and entertaining collection of oral histories was among one of the most satisfying reads I've had in a long time. These first person narratives really highlighted the beauty, majesty, and diversity of life in the San Francisco Bay Area.

EXCELLENT - EASY TO PREPARE MEALS
We have used several recipes in this book and find them extremely good and easy to make. Ingredients are very basic. My husband has a history of high triglyceride for which he is currently taking medication for. As a former cancer patient - have lowered the above as well as cholesterol levels. His physician is quite impressed. This is the only recipe book we use. We would highly recommend this book for anyone watching fat intake. I guarantee that you will be quite surprised in how satisfying the food is and you won't have that "hungry" feeling which leads to the dreaded snacks!

Extremely useful!
I loved the book because it uses recipes with all basic foods. There are no special ingredients to find and purchase. This book is a great way to introduce healthy, low-fat cooking into the average home.

Grandad Bill's Song
Published in School & Library Binding by Philomel Books (May, 1994)
Authors: Jane Yolen and Melissa Bay Mathis
Average review score:

Grandad Bill's Song
This is an excellent book The child in the story had many questions on how people felt when his grandfather died. It gently discussed the feelings of sadness and the memories that keep the person alive within us. It raised the childs awareness that his grandfather lived an entire lifetime that included a childhood, young adulthood through his role as a grandad. It discussed how one person, Grandad's son, felt that he needed to be the "strong one." He felt the pressure of having to take charge of the funeral arrangements, thus having to suppress his own feelings of grief and sadness. He felt the need to support the family and friends around him. The child then expressed the feelings that he had at the time of the death which included anger and sadness. This book addresses the wide range of feeling experienced when a loved one dies. The feelings range from denial to sadness to anger. The sharing of all the memories that many people held really honors the grandfathers life. It shows a life well lived and that Grandad was well loved. The illustrations were wonderful, soft, tender, gentle. This book is well written, almost a quiet musical feel. It is an excellent resourse for those trying to prepare children and adults alike, for the feelings that will be experienced by the loss of a loved one. It is an excellent book to introduce the concept of loss.

poignant look at the loss of a grandfather
This book was a beautifully written book and one that has touched my life and that of my children, and the rest of my family. The author focuses on the different people that this man had related to and their memory of him when he was gone. I lost my grandfather 12 years ago and this book gave me the snapshot of him in all of the different eyes of people in my family. I also shared this book with a young girl who had lost her father to cancer and I believe it prompted her to make snapshots of her father and that his memory would live with her forever. A wonderful book to cherish forever.

A "must" for San Francisco Bay Area gardeners.
This beautifully organized book provides an easy-to-follow guide for establishing butterfly, bird, and insect habitats in your own garden. Host plants, nectar plants, and food sources (both native and non-native) including annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and vines are listed for both butterflies and birds. Maintenance of the habitat garden is detailed with specific suggestions. Additional sections explain the importance of encouraging beneficial insects, the beauty and role of ponds in the garden, and special advice on "how to" start your own habitat garden. Color photographs provide a visual guide while spot illustrations and quotations provide inspiration and encouragement. A "must" for any Bay Area gardener.

Inspiring book!
This is a beautiful little book, a real jewel that makes providing a pleasing habitat for both our wild friends and ourselves an easy task. It certainly inspired me to add more habitat plants to my garden, and I reap the benefits daily. I especially loved how she put the plant photos on the outside page edges so I can flip through and relocate the information I want quickly. This book should also be useful for many people outside the SF Bay Area. Providing wildlife habitat is so important now.
